The Saints swim and dive team won several individual events during its September 19th home meet against Higley, but the Knights came out victorious in the end, beating the boys 127 to 48 and the girls 114 to 67. 

For the NDP boys team, junior Aidan Rabasca won the 100 meter freestyle race with a time of 58:28 seconds. 100 meter backstroke race was won by junior William Bansberg with a time of 55:75 seconds. Bansberg also took home second place in the 200 meter individual medley, and junior Nick Ward placed second in both the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter butterfly.

The Saints 200 meter medley relay ended with a hard-fought win for Bansberg, Rabasca, Ward, and junior Chris Matura. The 200 meter freestyle relay team made up of Bansberg, Rabasca, Ward, and senior Jared Boginske finished second with a time of 1:45.13. 

The NDP girls team had several winners as well. Senior Danielle Drake won the 200 meter freestyle race with a time of 2:14.86 and freshman Samantha Kuczaj won the 100 meter backstroke with a 1:07.32 time. Sophomore Elle Aister took first place in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:16.32.

 The Lady Saints won the first event of the day, the 200 meter medley relay, and they were ahead for almost the whole race. The girls 200 freestyle team, made up of senior Allie Rances, Aister, came out victorious.The girls 200 individual medley relay team kept it close, but in the end, Higley won. In the girls 50 freestyle, junior Rhiannon Gnerer took second place with a time of 27.50 seconds.  

After the meet, Matura said, “I feel like the meet went as well as it could have. We swam against a really talented team, so it was a tough meet, but it was fun swimming as a team.” 

He feels like the “team needs to keep working on our speed and endurance so we can continue to swim well in the meets.”

 There is a new coaching staff this year, led by Head Coach Bob Ostrander.  Matura said that “the three new coaches are great. They try and help everybody improve on their stokes and times and hold good practices to help us all improve.”

The team has two more home meets on October 10th against Verrado and October 17th against Desert Mountain.
